High Power Laser Pointers - The Laser Beam Brighter Yet Blinding

Laser pointer enthusiasts are always looking for units with high power. It seems the more dangerous the unit the more people want to get their hands on them. The reality is that military laser pointers are readily available via the internet these days, and people from all over the world are utilizing pointers for various applications, with little regard to danger.

If you are looking for strong lasers and have some experience handling devices, than you will find the web a great tool to shop for all of your laser goods. The beauty is that this is entirely open to the public as well. Laser pointers are no longer cheap keychains that are being sold on street corners, technology has turned them into advanced portable light gadgets. If you are familiar with astronomy you have seen much of the transformation over the past several years, and luckily for us, high power pointers are now relatively inexpensive in price.

One thing every user must remember is safety must always be kept in mind, most importantly when handling units over 200mW or 300mW. The higher the output power of the laser, the brighter and more intense the beam will appear. Many pointers are capable of popping balloons, lighting cigarettes or cigars, even cutting through electric tape. If you have ever searched for powerful lasers on YouTube you know what powerful portable lasers are capable of. Knowing the danger and potential hazards of these burning lasers, you really must keep your safety and the safety of others a number one priority when your powerful laser pointer is engaged.

Green lasers are typically designed with the largest potential for higher power. This is not only because the 532nm green beam frequency is the brightest color in the visible light spectrum, but also because green lasers are quite simple to modify in the production stage for higher laser output. The potential for hand held lasers on the market today goes from your simple 5mW green laser pointer to 100mW and even in excess of 300mW. Some of the worlds most powerful laser pointers are literally just a click or two away if you know where to look, but remember, use your high power laser with caution. If the beam is capable of burning industrial strength electric tape, what potential hazards can we see to human flesh or your eyes retinas? Do not let the allure of a high power laser distract you from the danger you possess, shine with care, and don't for get to enjoy what technology has brought upon you.

James is an avid user of powerful laser pointers and has designed various accessories and projections for use with powerful lasers. He prefers certified laser pointers from biglasers.com, for professional high power laser pointers.

Military Laser Pointers - Dangerous Military Grade High Power Laser Technology In The Wrong Hands

Its no mystery that many military organizations throughout the globe incorporate the use of various laser devices into their entourage of weapon systems. It seems the value and versatility of high power lasers has worked its way beyond contemporary science and astronomy, we now see laser pointers and other powerful devices at the forefront of the modern day battle field. There are many clear combat advantages military pointers provide to today's foot soldier. Whether mounting the diode as a sight, or a high power laser pointer for pointing out enemy locations, or even underwater reconnaissance, there is no more useful tool than a military laser pointer.

It makes good sense to provide funding to military personnel for standard issue, not only as a weapon, but also as a life saving device. Many times a high power pointer is the only "homing beacon" a platoon or squadron can rely on to be retrieved during a gunfight or a failed operation. A high power beam is clearly visible through daylight and the night sky, and the most popular military pointer in production produces a powerful green beam at a light frequency of 532nm. This is because the military finds the greatest use in the brightest laser color possible to the human eye, 532nm. Many units are so powerful that they can actual light a fuse, temporarily blind an enemy, burn, and ignite, making them great for protection and intimidation.

There is, however, a bit of controversy surrounding the availability of powerful products on the open market through online shopping sources. The debate is that extremely powerful pens, which can be considered dangerous, are too easy to purchase and use despite clear health and safety hazards that they create for un-trained users. The problem is that many people were taking advantage of military grade technology from the comfort of their own home, receiving wonderfully packaged powerful units to their front doors. To some, this may seem harmless, but the media has created a shroud of fear surrounding the concept of pointers. When news hit the nation that a pointer had been used to blind a pilot on his descent to land his filled aircraft on an international air strip, immediate action was demanded by the public from both the FDA and Home Land Security. The unfortunate truth was that the pointer that was actually used was a low power 5mw green laser pen, not your average high power military laser pointer. Despite this knowledge, leaps and bounds were made extremely quickly to keep these products out of the homes of your average civilian.

But hobbyists around the world have not backed down at all, in fact, laser sales worldwide have steadily increased year to year since the wide scale release of the green laser pointer at the dawn of the millennium. More powerful pointers are being sold today than ever before. But there is some difference surrounding the laser pointer scenario currently. It seems that your average laser pointer enthusiast has gotten smarter and is now taking standard safety precautions when using their powerful lasers. Simple things really, such as not aiming the laser at any person, animal, vehicle, or building. Things that really anyone with a little common sense should be able to grasp, but when you are holding a powerful laser pointer capable of blazing a beam of light over 65 miles, its easy to get carried away. The military will continue to use laser pointers, and laser providers around the globe will continue to provide military laser pointers to laser users as long as the desire for more power exists.

James has been involved with testing and designing of military laser pointer for over three decades. He has written extensively about positive use of military lasers in global armed services. His preferred provider of military laser pointers is United States based BigLasers.com

Purchase Green Lasers With No Risk at Any Output Power

Whenever you're looking to purchase green lasers, or really any piece of technology for that matter, its extremely important to do a little bit of research into what you are getting and why. Take a look at a few tips that will not only get you any green laser you're looking for, but how to do it safely and for pretty cheap as well.

Now, since lasers and laser pointers involve some complicated manufacturing that utilizes the combination of crystals and diodes to maximize any lasers potential and color frequency, its important to be sure that the brand or model you are considering is not some shoddy pointer that is going to burn out on you in a weeks time. If you are going to go for it and buy something, make sure you're getting something that is worth your while, something that is built to last.

First of all, what do you need a green laser for in the first place? For use in a business, or to give a presentation, for military or safety use, etc. Its important to think about why you are in need of a laser and what you plan to do with it, even if you're just a hobbyist who loves the advanced technology of the hand held gadgets. So after you've determined what you need the laser for, you can get a good idea of how powerful your green laser should be.

If you are using the beam for short distances, well then you'd probably only need something that isn't too powerful, but if you need the beam to be visible for miles well then you'd want to go with a higher output power.

Second of all, give your brand or model a little 'online inspection', by simply looking at testimonials or stats/specs of the laser itself. See what other people who have the laser are saying about it on the web, and compare prices to find the best deal online for your needs. Remember about the quality of your laser diodes and why its so important. You may have found a powerful green laser at 100mW you want to buy that just doesn't seem right and the price is too low. Lasers are like cars or any other item of varying quality, you can find some real cheap one's but that doesn't mean that its worth your time or money if its just going to burn or blow out on you and stop working in a day or so. What you see is what you get with lasers, the cheaper and poorer quality the manufacturing, the faster the laser is guaranteed to stop working.

Also, what type of warranties are offered on the laser? A reputable laser provider will have manufacturer's warranties as well as add on's you can choose from to protect your investment, because that's what it is, and investment into a gadget, your business, or even hobby. Don't be fooled by the allure of a cheap laser when its just going to die on you, if you're serious about purchasing green lasers, checking the quality or name brand can save you a lot of hassle down the road.

Lastly, since you have thought about what you need a laser for and looked into different brand names and models of green lasers, you are ready to make an educated decision about which type and style of green laser to purchase. Because these are advanced pieces of technology, don't go too cheap as you'll find you end up with a poorly designed and built laser that may not even last a week, but also compare prices online to find the best value for your dollar and needs.

Certain laser providers carry brands that others don't, while some carry everything within the realms of quality and assurance. Look for laser warranties and actual customer service, this can be huge if you ever run into a problem or just have a question about any laser you're considering. The point is, don't be shy in asking questions and make sure that you purchase green lasers from some place reputable, who will ship quickly and provide you with a powerful laser tool that is built to last.

James has written and spoken extensively over the past 2 decades about the importance of lasers in our society and how they will continue to effect our cultures and technology in the future. His preferred place to purchase green lasers is USA based BigLasers.com, the web's #1 provider of such a wide selection of laser models actually worth your time.

Green Laser Pointer - Modifying Your Green Laser For More Power

A green laser pointer produces a far brighter visible beam than any other color of laser. This is not necessarily because the lasers are modded to such high powers, but instead because green is the brightest color in the visible light spectrum to the human eye.

This is why the lower power 5mw green laser beam is clearly visible under the cover of night or a little bit of smoke. Still it seems this is not enough for most laser enthusiasts out there, they feel a need to modify their laser pointer to increase the strength of the beam, with little regard to the obvious safety hazards.

A green pointer with a simple on/off push button switch is not legally allowed to be sold above an output of 5mW in the united states and many other countries. This makes getting your hands on high power green lasers a little bit more tricky. If you know where to look, you can easily pick up high quality hand held and industrial laser goods right from the web through reliable retailers with no hesitation. But, if this is out of your budget and you're looking to buy green laser pointers cheap you may consider modding your pointer.

The 532nm green laser crystal can be a bit less complicated to work with than that of a red laser pointer, which is yet another reason why green lazer pointers are so popular for laser modification. A simple sottering kit will be needed to complete this task, oh and of course your laser. Now, if you have a high power green laser, there is no sense in toying with it because there is always the possibility for complete failure or permanent damage to your laser pen.

So, unscrew your lasers end-cap and carefully remove the batteries or power source. You may be able to see the green diode and even remove it if you have a real cheap laser, but most likely this won't be the case. A lot of laser manufacturers have made getting at the diode rather difficult, not so we can't mod them, but so the laser stays in its solid state and remains durable. These are high precision crystal diodes and one variation can lead to a dispersed beam.

If the diode is removable you are in luck, if not, I'd let the professionals handle your lasers. Spend the money, you will not be disappointed. But for all of you cheapskates that want the cheapest green laser pointer possible, and I feel where you are coming from, we need to remove the diode and locate the green laser crystal. You will notice it is round, maybe the size of the flat end of a pin, and looks like a CD or DVD laser eye. You will need to heat up your sottering kit and put on some safety goggles.

Now we very carefully heat the diode until the crystal has been visibly changed, its great to have a few diodes laying around to get the hang of which way the green crystal needs to be heated for proper beam propulsion, but make do with what you can. After you have heated and molded the crystal, from a round shape to an oval shape preferably, replace the diode into the laser casing. Return the pointers batteries and end-cap, then turn your green pointer on. Has the beams output power been increased? You will be able to tell immediately if you have drastically increased the output of your green laser, but if the change is slight or you have ruined your laser we may be out of luck.

I'm suggesting if you want a perfectly collimated long lasting green laser pointer, you purchase the higher output powers. These high tech gadgets come with warranties and there is no risk in losing your pointer entirely. But for everyone on a budget who really needs a 50mW green pointer or higher, you can always try (I want to stress the word TRY) to mod your green beam at home. Either way, be careful with all lasers.

James has been a laser hobbyist since he purchased his first green laser pointer and has modded hundreds of them since. He prefers professional laser tools, but enjoys the occasional "home made" laser. His professionally certified Green Laser Pointers come from BigLasers.com

High Power Laser Pointer & Portable Laser Applications

"A solution looking for a problem" - Charles H. Townes on the application of lasers.

Since lasers were developed, they have had numerous applications in a number of diverse fields. Listed here are just some of the application for high power laser pointers and portable lasers.

Astronomy

With a brilliant beam stretching for miles into the night sky, high power green and red laser pointers are excellent tools for astronomy. Easy and quick identification and pin pointing stars and other celestial bodies. No need for difficulties, frustration or wasted time pointing with your finger or trying to explain. A laser pointer can be used to identify and pinpoint any object in just a few seconds.

High power portable lasers can also be mounted on telescopes as a visual indicator of where the telescope is pointing. Portable laser is also ideal for mounting on GOTO mounts/telescopes to help direct other people with telescopes and binoculars to an object. With no duty cycle, an on/off switch and very durable construction, a portable laser can be both conveniently and easily mounted on almost any make of telescope and used by hand.

Red light is scattered less by the atmosphere than green light because red light has a longer wave length making green lasers more visible and suitable for astronomy. The light from green lasers also has the advantage of being the wavelength that our eyes are most sensitive to.

Most cheap low powered laser pointers are not effective to be used in astronomy. The beam from these lasers is too weak and easily obscured by ambient light, smog and fog. The beams from high power laser pointers will easily be visible at night in the worst of conditions with the higher powered models even being visible during the day. Perfect for dawn and dusk astronomy.

Photography

Lasers are visually stunning and are used to create very impressive and dynamic photographs. When a camera is used on extended exposure, a high power laser pointer can be used to draw, make pictures and create marvelous visual effects. The proliferation of laser photographs online is a testament to the popularity of lasers and photography.

Lasers and photography is not just limited to lasers pointers and hobbyists. Specialist lasers with short powerful pulses make high speed photography with exposure time of several trillionth of a second possible.

Aiming devices

As a sports person out for some target practice or a soldier on the battlefield, high power laser pointers can help you improve your aim and accuracy. With a range well in excess of 10 miles at night, laser pointers will give you the ability to line up any target in visual range. Even in broad daylight, the green laser dot will be a visible aiming point that can greatly improve accuracy.

Construction/Alignment

On construction and building sites, high power laser pointers and portable lasers are ideal for engineers and site mangers to point out details and features. The laser beam dot is clearly visible in all conditions allowing the quick and efficient identification of features on a site. Effectively saving money through the reduction of wasted time and minimizing errors.

Laser pointers are also used for aligning objects over long distances. High power laser pointers are commonly used by both road construction crews and ground keepers at major sporting venues, world wide.

Avian dispersal

Farmers, airport ground controllers, pet owners and naturalists all use portable lasers as a non lethal method of avian dispersal. Lasers have been instrumental in the reduction of bird strike rates and in effective avian predator management for a number of protected bird species.

Both laser pointers and portable lasers are used by farmers from various countries to supplement their avian dispersal programs. By using our lasers, farmers have been able greatly reduce their cost (rifle or ammunition costs) with zero impact on wildlife and still adhere to local laws for wildlife protection.

Laser shows & entertainment

No rave or dance venue now is complete with out a laser show. The same can be said for any major out door event with the Asian games, Commonwealth games, Afro-Asian games and Olympic games being classic examples.

Both high power laser pointers and portable lasers can also be used with basic optics to create similar light shows on a smaller scale. The shows you can do with lasers range in complexity from a simple star diffraction grating to a more elaborate set ups with galvanometers and dichroic mirrors.

Medical

Lasers in medicine have a wide range of applications range from vision correction and surgery to wound cauterization and the acceleration of soft tissue healing. In brief, the lasers used in are divided into two categories, high power green lasers (3000mW to 10000mW) and low power red and infrared lasers (1mW to 500mW).

High powered lasers are used to cut through tissue and seal/cauterize wounds where as low level lasers are used to treat injuries and promote healing. Though not designed medical use and not to be used with out medical approval, high power laser pointers and portable lasers and infrared laser pointers do in both theory and practice have medical applications.

Non lethal deterrent

Laser pointers and portable lasers are now commonly used by law enforcement agencies and armed forces around the world as a highly effective method of non lethal deterrent. The beam from these lasers can temporarily overwhelm a hostiles visual senses and cause severe disorientation, effectively neutralizing them without resulting in permanent eye damage or the use of force.

Military applications for laser pointers range from painting targets and directing troop movements to warning potential hostiles. Portable lasers are also used by the military to how to warn/deter suspicious or aggressively driven vehicles that approach checkpoints or convoy operations with out using potentially lethal force.

High power laser pointer has been used by a number of coalition force members in both Iraq and Afghanistan. Being durable, field portable and with a beam that can span the largest battlefield, well built high power laser pointers are ideal for the role of non lethal deterrent.

Experiments

Lasers can provide you with hours of fun conducting experiments that provide insights into light, optics, electronics, energy and lots more. Much more beneficial and enjoyable a boring class room or stale text book.

Experiments can range in complexity from some as simple as popping a balloon (heat conduction and reflectivity) to as complicated as bending light (wave propagation).

Camping/Hiking

Laser pointers and portable lasers are great aids for camping and hiking. There is nothing worse than being stuck out in the middle of the bush during the wind and rain and with wet matches and not being able to light a fire. High powered lasers are great for lighting fires. Lasers with a beam that is visible for miles can also be used to signal for help in the event that you are lost or need aid.

Lasers can also provide adequate illumination at night that unlike a normal torch, will not ruin your night vision. High power laser pointer are so light and small, you can hike with them in your pockets and not even notice the weight. The larger laser portable lasers weigh the same as a small flashlight and can easily fit in your back pack. It's also strong enough to survive the heaviest pounding and roughest trail.

Having Fun

There is nothing like having the coolest high tech gadget with a lethal sky spanning beam to impress your friends. Just imagine the look on their faces when you start popping balloons and lighting matches. Not to mention the attention you'll get when you use your laser outside at night projecting a bright green/red/blue light that goes for miles. High power laser pointers and portable lasers are definitely not toys but they are a lot of fun.

Experiments For High Power Green Laser Pointers

Doing experiments with green laser pointers can be both educational and a load of fun. This article provides an outline of a number of good experiments for green laser pointers.

Conducting experiments with laser pointers is both educational and loads of fun. Listed below are some basic experiments you can perform with green laser pointers. Please when experimenting, always keep safety foremost in mind.

Thermal experiments

Burning plastic

This is the easiest of the thermal experiments to perform and only requires a 55mW laser pointer.

Instructions/tips:

-Use thin black plastic such as shopping bags.

-Hold the laser pointer very close to the bag and rest it on something solid to keep the beam steady.

-The first sign of success will be tendrils of smoke from the point you are aiming at.

-When you've finished, holding the plastic up to the light should reveal small pin pricks burnt into the plastic.

Bursting or popping balloons

Laser pointers of roughly 75mW or higher in power can pop dark or black colored balloons.

Instructions/tips:

-Dark or black balloons are best because they are better at absorbing green light. White or green balloons will have too much reflection and the absorbed energy will not be enough to pop the balloon. If you don't have any dark/black balloons, you can use a sharpie (black texta) to put a black spot on the balloon that you can aim the laser at.

-Make sure the balloon is fully blown up because if it is not blown up properly and lacks tension, popping it will be difficult.

Lighting matches

This is harder to do than popping balloons and requires a minimum of 95mW or higher laser pointer.

Instructions/tips:

-As with balloons, the color of the match head is also important. If the color is too light such as white, too much energy from the laser beam will be reflected and there will not be enough energy remaining to light the match. Black or dark red matches are ideal. You can also use a sharpie to darken the match head.

-Make sure both the laser pointer and the match are fixed and not moving

-don't hold the laser pointer too close to the match or you may get ash and debris on the laser pointer lens.

Cutting black electrical tape

Another one of the more difficult burning experiments that requires a laser pointer of at least 95mW in power.

Tips/instructions:

-Attach the loose end of the tape to a fixed point such as the edge of a table then leave roughly 10 cm of tape with the tape roll suspended at the end. The tape roll will create tension that makes cutting the tape easier.

-keep the laser steady and aimed at the edge of the tape.

Mirrors

Experiments with mirrors can range from the very basic to the very advanced and are only limited by your imagination. The advantage of mirror experiments is that there are no specific power requirements and low powered laser pointers will be just as effective (but less visible) as the higher powered laser pointers.

Laser accordion

Very easy to do and can be visually very impressive.

Instructions/tips:

-Carefully line up two rectangular mirrors of similar size parallel to each other.

-change the angle of the laser pointer to the mirror to create more beams between the mirrors

Measure your pulse

Sounds difficult but is actually very easy to do.

Instructions/tips:

-attach a very small mirror (no more than 4cm in diameter) directly over the inner part of your wrist where pulse is normally measured. Use a small round object like blue tack or chewing gum (messy but effective) to attach the mirror to your wrist.

-reflect the laser pointer beam of the mirror onto a smooth surface such as a wall at least 4 meters away.

-if the laser pointer and your wrist are held steady, the rhythmic movements in the reflected image on the wall will be your pulse.

Security alarm

This experiment is an extension of the laser accordion experiment.

Instructions/tips:

-at a security point such as an exit/doorway or a hall way, line up two rectangular mirrors and create a grid of laser beams. The beam should be aimed to fall on a photoelectric detector that is connected to an alarm.

-once the beam is broken, the alarm will be activated.

-IR lasers could be used to create an invisible security alarm.

Cool beam effects

There are a number of experiments ranging from very simple to quite advanced that can create beautiful beam effects such as the ones listed below.

Ice

The crystalline structure of ice is full of hollows, gaps and imperfections that will scatter and diffract the laser beam.

Laser drawing and writing

Instructions/tips:

-make sure the exposure time on your camera is at least 2 seconds

-aim the laser pointer beam at a smooth non reflective surface with a good contrast

-then use the beam point to write/draw pictures

-use smoke or fog to provide additional effect

Bend light

Using wave propagation theory, you can actually bend light from your laser pointer and see it clearly.

Instructions/tips:

-Aim the laser at a smooth surface 4 meters away such as a white wall

-Use an object with a very precise smooth edge such a new razor blade.

-partially block the laser beam with the edge and note the interference patterns produced.

-the patterns will not be flat or smooth. Instead there will be a diffraction pattern

Moving objects

No kidding, high power laser pointers have a beam powerful enough to move objects. At least they can move the vanes in a Crookes radiometer.

-instructions/tips:

-you need a Crookes radiometer that has a complete vacuum in the globe and the vanes have virtually frictionless support.

-aim the laser pointer beam at the silver side of the vanes and they should start to move very rapidly.

Beam splitting

There are various methods and numerous pieces of equipment that can split the beam of a alaser. This one of the simplest methods.

Instructions/tips:

-Using microscope slides, split the laser beam by angling the beam on the slide.

-For really spectacular results, you can use a diffraction grating.

Time tunnel

Laser pointers can be used to create a light tunnel reminiscence of Doctor Who and several other famous science fiction programs

Instructions/tips:

-you attach a mirror to an electric motor at a slight angle.

-aim the laser beam on the mirror when the motor is turned on and the laser beam will spin around itself to create a laser cone or tunnel

Welcome to the World of SEO - Unleash the Power of This Cheap Website Promotional Tool

What is SEO?

SEO is the acronym of Search Engine Optimization. For the understanding of beginners, search engine optimization is the art and science of making a website to perform better with various search engines such as Google, Yahoo, Bing and Ask.com. In other words, SEO involves a number of activities that make your site search engine friendly.

As you know, search engines offer the platform to extract particular information on almost anything existing in the world. Users generally type in some text known as keyword or key phrase in the search box and get the most relevant information on that keyword in the form of listed web pages. Have you ever wondered how and why these web pages appear in that sequence for a particular keyword?

Search engines normally adhere to a set of rules or algorithm to rank websites or web pages for a certain search query (keyword). So, if your website contains good, original content related a search query and receives high-quality inbound links from other similar websites in great quantity, then the site is highly favored by search engines that give it a high rank in the search results for that query.

Now, we can provide a more advanced definition of SEO which is the process of optimizing your website (or setting it right) according to the preferences of search engines through the implementation of some techniques both on and off the site, so that it obtains a high ranking in search engine result pages (SERPs).

SEO - Advantages & Impact

Preferring search engine optimization can deliver a number of advantages and positive impacts for your website. These include:

1. As search engines nowadays are the most popular online tools among web surfers to look for specific information, the scope of SEO is quite enormous. With millions of search queries every day, search engines can prove to be the ultimate source of potential customers for your products or services.

2. Conventional advertising and promotional techniques bear a local impact. Global promotional techniques call for huge investments that small and mid-size businesses are unable to make. So, search engine optimization becomes all the more important as it is the most powerful online promotional tool having a deep impact on global customer base.

3. Optimizing a website for search engines is the cheapest technique around. Generally, the costs involved in a full-fledged SEO campaign are much lower than that of conventional promotion. Converting a sales lead to a customer can also be performed in a cost-effective manner with the optimization technique.

4. With the help of search engine optimization, your website can receive a large number of highly qualified leads that have maximum chances of becoming customers because they land on your website through search engine result page, looking for their desired product or service you sell.

5. Implementing SEO techniques can allow you to gain valuable knowledge of keywords used by your potential clients to find the products or services you offer. This information will be helpful in identifying customer tastes and preferences and formulating your optimization strategies accordingly. You can also target your end customers in a better way through better positioning of products or services.

6. Search engine optimization can open the door to nonstop generation of revenues through increased web traffic and sales. When your website obtains top ranks for all your profitable keywords, it becomes highly visible among millions of search engine users.

7. This technique is the quiet means of product promotion, devoid of any extravagant advertising tricks. As a result, your prospective clients will find your website offerings more reliable and believable.

SEO - The Past, Present & Future

The field of search engine optimization has been witnessing rapid changes and the same trend will continue in the future also. So, both webmasters and SEO service providers have to be on their toes always to cope with these changes. We'll take a look at the evolution search engine optimization over the years and its future ahead.

The Past

During the beginning of search engine optimization in the late 1990s, more attention was given to optimizing the on-page factors of websites rather than building link popularity through off-page optimization. We'll discuss both on-page and off-page optimization in detail later in this article. The reason behind lack of efforts on link popularity is webmasters and Internet marketers were exchanging links with other related websites freely. That was enough to bring traffic to their websites. Banner ads were actually popular during this period.

During the early 2000's, the popularity of link building gained momentum. You can say, this was the beginning of the era when link popularity outclassed on-page activities. Numerous websites concentrated on building more and more links from related websites and creating sub-domains. On the other hand, it was also the era of rising SEO companies who adopted unprincipled and unfair strategies and techniques to achieve link popularity.

During the middle period of 2000's, more than 75 percent of all SEO activities were focused on link popularity. This period also witnessed the rise of social networking websites such as Facebook, MySpace, Digg, StumbleUpon, Orkut, etc. that revolutionized the process of interlinking. Search engine optimization turned so prominent that it did away with the need of listing on Yellow Pages for countless businesses around the world. This period was also important for Google as it established itself as the number one search engine.

The Present

Talking about the present scenario, the concept of SEO is in full swing and has become the paramount choice of online businesses to promote their products or services. As stated by Internet Retailer Magazine, the expenditure on search engine optimization worldwide is expected to rise by a staggering 43% this year.

As far as link popularity is concerned, there is no sign of dying away as more than 80 percent of all activities are currently revolved around link building. Such is the craze of link popularity that links have got the status of commodity and are often traded over the Internet by link brokers. The PageRank toolbar offered by Google regarding the importance of a web page has lost some of its sheen for ranking intentions, but it continues to exist for viewing by web surfers only.

As the number of websites is presently numbered in millions, the competition for optimizing the majority of 2-word phrases is getting tougher. The keywords that had mere 50,000 search results some 6 years back have now more than 300,000 search results, thereby making the task of top 10 ranking all the more difficult. This implies that only the most innovative SEO techniques employed by the most competent SEO firms can get you the top ranks for your targeted keywords. So, guaranteed optimization services are not a cakewalk anymore. The advice for webmasters is to choose a service provider cautiously after planning their expenses meticulously.

The Future

In the future, search engines will start to present search results that can be controlled locally. Though noteworthy progress has already been made in this regard by Google, it would be more prevalent in the days to come. Browser-specific results will also be witnessed. Link building will continue its growing streak, but the evaluation of links will get trickier with the advent of more complicated search engine algorithms and link determination factors. On-page optimization will get back to the popularity chart with mounting emphasis on cutting down the website size. Video search will grow in stature with the potential to become the most preferred choice of online marketing.

It is said that 3 blog comments are equivalent to additional 100 inbound links per month. So, always search popular blogs posted on high quality blogging websites for commenting.

Forum Discussions: Since search engines index various forum websites frequently, participating in forum discussions can be a good source of generating backlinks with the anchor text of your preference. It is also beneficial from site traffic standpoint. Visit popular and active forums having relevancy to your business and take part in discussions by replying to existing threads. The more time you spend in forums, the more popular you will be among fellow members. Always put links back to your website in your signature.

There are many social bookmarking websites like Digg and Del.icio.us where you can submit stories or bookmarks containing your website link. Make your bookmarks public so that others can view and follow them to build strong online social networks. Always prefer websites that offer do-follow links to help your SEO endeavors.

(B) Two-Way Link Building

Reciprocal Link Exchange: Reciprocal links are also known as link exchanges, link swaps and link partners. These links are obtained when two websites having similar business theme agree to link to one another. A good amount of reciprocal links can boost your search engine position and site traffic alike. However, you must not overdo this technique. Search in Google to find the list of link exchange websites that provides information on webmasters who regularly swap links with one another. Never go for automated link exchanging to avoid the situation of being involved in link firms that link to completely dissimilar websites.

(C) Three-Way Link Building

Three-Way Reciprocal Link Exchange: This form of link exchange involves three websites instead of two. Though it is practiced on a limited scale, you can give your link exchange a more natural look with it. In three-way link exchange, three distinct websites must be present. For instance, A, B, and C are three websites. Here, A links to B, B links to C and C links to A. Elaborating further, B receives a one-way link from A, but doesn't link back to it. Similarly, C receives a link from B, but doesn't reciprocate the same to B. A receives a link from C without linking back to it. With ‘Millions’ Of Users & Growing, Google+ Set To Power All Google Products

Jul 9, 2011 at 5:26pm ET by

google-plus-featuredWith the Google+ user base already in the millions and growing, Google is planning heavy investments in it and will eventually use Plus as the infrastructure behind all of the company’s products.

Speaking to reporters this week in Idaho, Executive Chairman Eric Schmidt said Google is pleased with the early response to Plus and is planning to use its core identity and “circles” features across Google products.

“The current inclination of the company,” Schmidt said, “is to invest heavily … we test stuff and, when it works, we put a lot more emphasis on it. So, Google+ — all the signs are very positive, so now the whole company is ramping up on top of it.”

Schmidt said he didn’t know the exact number of Google+ users, but said it was in the “millions.” (Early this week, Google+ user Paul Allen — who co-founded Ancestry.com and is now Chief Revenue Officer at FamilyLink.com — used surname distribution data from the US Census Bureau to estimate that Plus had about 1.7 million users as of Monday.)

Plus is still in its infancy, so Schmidt was non-committal about a lot of specifics, but he made repeated references to Google+ being used to power and improve other Google products. Consider these three quotes:

As we move our stuff onto what you think of as Google+, there’s a nice set of product improvements in core search, YouTube, maps, and so forth, which should drive adoption.
We’re trying to use the identity infrastructure to make Google products really interesting. Imagine all of those properties adopting the circles metaphor — Buzz adopting it, Gmail adopting it.
The assumption is that as it grows and ramps up, everything will move over to using the + infrastructure.

Schmidt said that he’s pleased with two particular aspects of the Google+ launch: One, that many people have been unhappy about not having an invite and, two, that many users seem to understand how it differs from Facebook.
